Satire has carved itself a place in our modern societies, gaining the approval of crowds of people. What is it exactly? Sarcasm? Irony? Exaggeration? Art? Perhaps, a combination of all these?

Satire is generally used as a humorous way of criticising someone or something, punctuated with sarcasm. The purpose is to bring to the front what one views as faults that need to be dealt with. Satire can take the form of writing, graphics, cartoons, and performing arts.

A satirist, one who uses satire to drive his point home, will often make a sarcastic play of words to deliver his ideas. Satire is all about exposing mistakes and flaws with the help of a sarcastic exposé and, often, exaggerated humour.

People wanting to bring a change to society for the better employ different ways to attain their goal. Satirists bring humour to otherwise serious issues with the aim of making people reflect over them. Bad behaviour denounced with such sarcastic tricks often does a great job at rallying people for a certain cause.

Satirists do not resort to monotonous ways of conveying their views and opinions. Rather, they portray them by making a stark use of exaggeration in their statements. Often enough, personalities like politicians become the target of satirists. Sometimes, even religious leaders are not spared. This ultimately leads to ridiculing public figures, individuals, or whole organisations.

Exaggerating problems and explaining them in crude and funny ways are thought to attract the attention of people to a greater extent than just formal writing. At the same time, people enjoy satire as it is entertaining also.
